While many may know Warframe as a third-person shooting, slashing, and dashing extravaganza, the game does offer some unique passive tasks called Nightwave challenges that players can enjoy to slow things down. And one recurring challenge is the task of catching rare fish in the Plains of Eidolon in exchange for some useful items, of course.

So if you're looking to clear this challenge yourself and claim the rewards that are up for grabs, then look no further. As this guide aims to give you everything you need to find and catch the rare fish on the Plains of Eidolon in Warframe.

Warframe - Items needed To Catch Rare Fish on the Plains of Eidolon

Before you can head into the Plains of Eidolon and start catching those rare fish, there are a few prerequisites that you'll need. The first is to make sure you have the Lanzo Fishing Spear before heading to the Plains of Eidolon, which can be obtained from Fisher Hai-Luk in Cetus for 500 standing, and it doesn't require a high rank. While there, also get some Luminous Dye for 100 standing, which will highlight the fish in the water.

On the Plains of Eidolon, you can find four rare kinds of fish: Murkray, Norg, Cuthol, and Glappid. These fish are not naturally present; you need to use specific bait to attract them, which we've listed for each of the rare fish below.

Murkray Bait

  • Tralok Eyes (5)
  • Mortus Horn (5)
  • Goopolla Spleen (10)
  • Fish Meat (20)

Norg Bait

  • Maprico (5)
  • Sharrac Teeth (5)
  • Karkina Antenna (5)
  • Fish Meat (20)

Cuthol Bait

  • Maprico (5)
  • Goopolla Spleen (10)
  • Murkray Liver (5)
  • Fish Meat (20)

Glappid Bait

  • Maprico (5)
  • Norg Brain (5)
  • Cuthol Tendrils (5)
  • Fish Meat (10)

Make sure you equip the spear, dye, and bait on your gear wheel, and then venture out to the Plains of Eidolon.

Warframe - How To Catch the Rare Fish on the Plains of Eidolon

There are quite a few bodies of water in the Plains of Eidolon, but some of them yield far better results when searching for rare fish than others do. If you want to find the best location for them, you’re going to want to check out the map once you’re loaded into the Plains and search for Hillside Ruin.

Once you’ve found it near the bottom righthand-side of your map, make your way to the body of water that is directly below it. From there, players ought to search for a bubbling hotspot in the water.

If such a hotspot doesn't initially show up, it can clear the surrounding area of common fish, which usually prompts its appearance. Once they find the hotspot, they should toss the appropriate bait and luminous dye into the water. When the rare fish appear, the player can then use the equipped spear to catch them.

Lastly, to prevent interference from enemies, players have the option to select a frame that can turn invisible, such as the Warframe Ivara, or a frame that can avoid enemy interaction, like the Warframe Limbo.

And there you have it, a quick and comprehensive guide to getting geared up and catching the rare fish in the Plains of Eidolon. Be sure to take up this challenge when you can, as fish can be traded for standing and crafting resources like fish oil, act as decorations for a player's orbiter or clan dojo, or be used for nightwave offerings.
